Children health

The children’s rights to health are essential and fundamental. Helping ill children and their families is everyone’s duty.

In this belief, the “Foundation for the Child and the Family”, in collaboration with the Association of Friends of Children with cancer “ELPIDA”, fights for the construction of the First Oncological Hospital for children in Greece, that will give hope and smile to children who suffer as well as to parents who are concerned.

The construction of the Oncological Paediatrics Hospital in Greece, which is expected to be ready by 2010, will balance out the current insufficient care of the continuously increasing number of children that suffer from cancer, not only in Greece, but also in the Balkans.

The “Foundation for the Child and the Family” also participates in the international fight against cancer known as “The Charter of Paris” that was initiated by the Oncology Professor David Khayat, Founder and President of the "Association for Life and Hope against Cancer" (Association pour la Vie -Espoir contre le Cancer - AVEC).

The Charter of Paris against cancer was signed in February 2000 aiming at the promotion of the research for curing as well as preventing the disease, upgrading the provided services to the patients –medical treatment, psychological and social support, etc.–, the sensitisation of the common opinion and the mobilisation of the global community against the foul disease.
In the frame of the fight for the construction of the First Oncological Hospital for children in Greece, the “Foundation for the Child and the Family” in collaboration with “ELPIDA” Association organised a series of cultural events, as well as two fundraising tele-marathons: the “Tele-Marathon of Hope” and "Act of Hope".

People’s response was massive and touching since everybody contributed offering money whether from their savings or not; this vision and dream therefore will soon come true.
