MEMORIAL CONCERT FOR PRINCESS DIANA

A special concert was held at the Royal Festival Hall in London. This concert, in memory of Princess Diana, was organised by Mrs Marianna Vardinoyannis, President of the Foundation for the Child and the Family, and sponsored by the Foundation.

Profits from the concert were presented to the Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, as a symbol of the respect for the humanitarian work of Diana, and with the wish that her plans, of which she had spoken on numerous occasions to Marianna Vardinoyannis, might become reality ; plans and visions for the child and the family which the two women shared in the context of their friendship and their collaboration.

The Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Christoph von Dohnayi, one of the greatest living conductors, gave a recital of works by Richard Strauss and Felix Mendelsohn.

The concert was attended by 3,000 personalities from London and Athens society, and from all over Europe. Among them were :

The Greek Ambassador to London, Mr Basil Zapheiropoulos and his wife, the former Minister Sheryl Gillan, Prince Alexander and Princess Catherine of Yugoslavia, Princess Ira von Furstenburg, Prince Nagib Hassan, Sir Christopher Thompson, Sir Edward Ford, Lord and Lady Westbury, Lord and Lady Renwick, Lady Shopar, Lady Rannulph, Lady Torfiken, Lady Bowker, Mr and Mrs George Goulandris, Mr and Mrs Panagiotis Lemos, Mr and Mrs Giannis Philippou, Mr and Mrs Michael Hellinas, Mrs Eleni Samara, Mrs Irene Athanasiadou, Mrs Anna Petraki, Mrs Amalia Kyrtsou, Mr and Mrs Basil Daskalakis, Mr and Mrs Basil Agaloglou, Mr and Mrs Donato Stasi, Miss Vardianna Vardinoyannis, Mr and Mrs Basante, and many others. From the world of the arts, Mrs Jenny Drivala, Mrs Nonika Galinea, Mr Ralph Fiennes and others were present.

Their presence at this concert, was yet another tribute to Diana and her life's work, and gives us hope that it will in the future be a source of inspiration and a model for all those who care for the suffering of humanity.

Following the concert, Mrs Marianna Vardinoyannis announced her proposal for the endowment, by the Foundation for the Child and the Family, of the Princess Diana Prize. This will be an international prize, bestowed on those who devote their lives to the Child - the future of the world.
