Lecture of H.E. Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak in Athens, Greece

H.E. Mrs. Susanne Mubarak.

On July 6th 2007, the First Lady of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Mrs Suzanne Mubarak gave a lecture with the topic: "Lay the Foundations for Peace - Support Development". The lecture was held at the National Gallery of Athens. The event was organised and hosted by the President of the “Foundation for the Child and the Family” Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis.

In her introductory speech, Mrs. Vardinoyannis presented Mrs. Mubarak to the Greek public saying, inter alia: "It is difficult to find an adequate number words that express my admiration for such an important lady of our times; a distinguished scientist of sociology, an idealist and tireless President of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Founder and President of the "The Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement", Founder and President of the first "Institute for Peace Studies" in Middle East, an everyday fighter on many fronts for a better world. Especially in our days, where peace seams an intangible dream in many regions of the world and the everyday routine of entire populations is measured in war victims, she considers the protection of civilians in the belligerent regions of our planet as the centre of her actions. Where war and occupation forces limit every human right with children and women being the main victims she fights with all her strength to mobilise those institutions that can establish peace which is the main ideal or at least ensure that civilians could live with dignity. I feel honoured and delighted that I share this struggle with her; a struggle shared by all Greeks, as I believe. I thank her on behalf of all of us, for her precious contribution to having hope for tomorrow".

Ιn simple, mature and human words, Mrs. Mubarak spoke about her vision and the action of "The Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement".
"...We cannot dream about the future" Mrs. Mubarak pointed out "without the assurance that we will have peace; because it is only peace that can ensure stability and development. It is, therefore, essential to lay the foundations for peace seeking new ways of communication among populations and, even more essential, our core strategy for the construction of tomorrow, that will be based on the education of young people, broadening their horizons, providing incentives so that they adopt the values of peace, develop themselves and, in their turn, promote development...".

Concluding her speech, Mrs. Mubarak particularly thanked her friend Mrs. Marianna Vardinoyannis, "a woman who", as Mrs. Mubarak underlined, "always holds the banner of noble ideals high up and organised this event in order to sensitise the Greek common opinion on the very serious issue of children-victims of armed conflicts".
