Η Οικογένεια και το Παιδί στην κοινωνία του 21ου αιώνα στην Ευρώπη
Το Πανεπιστήμιο της Ευρώπης και το «Ίδρυμα για το Παιδί και την Οικογένεια» διοργάνωσαν στη Σορβόννη, από τις 31 Μαϊου ως την 1η Ιουνίου 1999, συνέδριο με θέμα: «Η Οικογένεια και το Παιδί, στην κοινωνία του 21ου αιώνα, στην Ευρώπη». Σκοπός του συνεδρίου, που τελούσε υπό την αιγίδα του προέδρου της Γαλλικής Δημοκρατίας κυρίου Ζακ Σιράκ, ήταν να εξετάσει τις σύγχρονες παραμέτρους, που σχετίζονται με τις δυνατότητες ανάπτυξης των παιδιών μέσα στα προάστια των μεγαλουπόλεων της ηπείρου μας.
Το συνέδριο εξέτασε το γλωσσικό και το οικογενειακό ζήτημα στο πλαίσιο των νέων τεχνολογιών και νέων κοινωνικό-πολιτιστικών στοιχείων που χαρακτηρίζουν τις ευρωπαϊκές μεγαλουπόλεις.
Έμφαση δόθηκε:
α) στον αναλφαβητισμό, ένα πρόβλημα που παίρνει όλο και νέες διαστάσεις, και
β) στις συνθήκες διαβίωσης των παιδιών που ζουν στο κοινωνικό περιθώριο των αναπτυγμένων χωρών (δηλαδή στα παιδιά του λεγόμενου «Τέταρτου Κόσμου»).
Στο συνέδριο συμμετείχαν 30 από τους πλέον εξειδικευμένους ευρωπαίους επιστήμονες, οι οποίοι ασχολούνται με την διερεύνηση των αιτιών και των παραμέτρων που προκαλούν σήμερα προβλήματα στην Οικογένεια και στο Παιδί, προβλήματα που επηρεάζουν ολοένα και μεγαλύτερες ομάδες πληθυσμού και τείνουν ν' απειλήσουν σοβαρά, αν δεν ληφθούν μέτρα , τις ευρωπαϊκές κοινωνίες του 21ου αιώνα.
Τα δεδομένα εξετάστηκαν υπό το πρίσμα μιας νέας προβληματικής που κινείται πάνω σε δυο κύριους άξονες:
α] τις νέες μορφές αναλφαβητισμού που ενοχοποιούνται για την περιθωριοποίηση των παιδιών και τη μη δυνατότητα ομαλής ένταξης τους στην κοινωνία
β]τις συνθήκες διαβίωσης του τέταρτου κόσμου-του νέου όρου με τον οποίο αναφέρονται σήμερα οι επιστήμονες όταν εξετάζουν τις υποανάπτυκτες ομάδες πολιτών που ζουν στις ανεπτυγμένες χώρες- καθώς και τις συνέπειες των συνθηκών αυτών στην ανάπτυξη των παιδιών.
Οι εργασίες του συνεδρίου άρχισαν στο μεγάλο αμφιθέατρο της Σορβόννης , με ομιλία της Προέδρου του Πανεπιστημίου της Ευρώπης, κυρίας Ελένης Αρβελέρ, η οποία επεσήμανε την αναγκαιότητα διερεύνησης αυτών των θεμάτων από τους ειδικούς, υπογράμμισε την αξία της πρωτοβουλίας της Προέδρου του «Ιδρύματος για το Παιδί και την Οικογένεια», κυρίας Μαριάννας Βαρδινογιάννη για τη διοργάνωση αυτού του συνεδρίου, αλλά και τη σημασία του γεγονότος ότι πραγματοποιείται στη Σορβόννη.
Οι εργασίες του συνεδρίου συνεχίστηκαν με συζητήσεις στρογγυλής τραπέζης όπου οι εμπειρογνώμονες αντάλλαξαν απόψεις, παρουσίασαν τ' αποτελέσματα σημαντικών ερευνών και άνοιξαν νέους ορίζοντες που θ' αποτελέσουν τη βάση του Δεύτερου Ευρωπαϊκού Φόρουμ που θα διοργανώσει το «Ίδρυμα για το Παιδί και την Οικογένεια στην Αθήνα», το 2000.
